Fort Scott firefighters on Monday afternoon worked to contain a blaze that destroyed one structure before spreading to a vacant house on the property. Representatives of the Fort Scott National Historic Site, American Legion Post 25 and Fort Scott Fire Department hosted an official U.S. flag disposal ceremony Saturday at the historic site. Staff explained how to properly dispose of worn-out flags representing the U.S., POW/MIA, State of Kansas, and military service branches.
