James Lewis Eastwood, age 81, a resident of rural Fort Scott, Kan., passed away early Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at the Mercy Hospital Emergency Room. He was born March 27, 1937, in Fort Scott, the son of Harold Lewis Eastwood and Verda Leola Thomas Eastwood. Jim graduated from Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1955. He married Patricia Ann Hoggatt on February 10, 1957, at Fort Scott. In earlier years, Jim had been employed by various Fort Scott grocery stores including, Gunsolles Grocery, Foodtown and Safeway. ...

Fern Lake fish dying from lack of oxygen

Fish are dying in a pond located at a local park and the reason can be attributed to oxygen depletion caused by various factors, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism Fisheries Biologist Don George said. George told the Tribune Tuesday there has been “a lot of chatter on social media” about fish dying in Fern Lake, the first pond visitors come to when entering the park. ...
