Defense in alleged sex crime case asks for arraignment date

The next steps in the process for a case involving a former church employee facing charges for alleged sex crimes are set to be discussed in November. During a brief hearing Monday in Bourbon County District Court, defense attorney Christopher Meek of Baxter Springs requested a date to waive a preliminary hearing, as well as for arraignment and plea in the case of Joseph Wayne Banker, a former employee of the Community Christian Church who is faced with charges for alleged sex crimes that took place in 2009 in Bourbon County.. ...

The Fort Scott Police Department is investigating a case of a Fort Scott man facing a charge of second degree murder. According to a news release issued Tuesday by the FSPD, officers responded about 10:41 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, to a residence in the 700 block of South Wilson Street following a report of an unattended death.
