Today is Flag Day, the 240th anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress in 1777. Flag Day was official established by a proclamation from President Woodrow Wilson on May 30, 1916, but it did not become a national holiday until President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress on Aug. 3, 1949.
