Fort Scott City Commissioners signed off Tuesday on a plan to allow UTVs, or utility task vehicles, on city streets for a trial basis. Fort Scott Police Chief Travis Shelton came before commissioners with a completed draft of an ordinance that will allow operation of UTVs on city streets. Commissioners approved the ordinance, which will take effect Jan. 1, for a 6-month trial and will review the ordinance again after that time period...

The local Salvation Army needs help through the holiday season. Allen Schellack, local coordinator, said bell ringers are needed for the annual Salvation Army campaign that runs from Thanksgiving through Christmas. The Red Cross has steps people can follow to get their vehicle ready for winter as well what they should do if they are caught in a winter storm.
