Christopher Messer, 49, of Fort Scott passed away Monday Morning, Feb. 29, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

Lewis Richard Williams, age 92, a longtime resident of Redfield, Kan., and recently of Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at the Guest Home Estates. He was born July 26, 1923, in Garland, Kan., the son of Burr Richard Williams and Nellie Post Williams. ...

Lloyd Alfred Olson, age 87, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, at his home. He was born June 7, 1928, in Dwight, Ill., the son of Dell and Bessie Berg Olson. He was a 1946 graduate of Westport High School, Kansas City, Mo. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. ...

On Monday, Fort Scott Community College hosted a visit from the Higher Learning Commission for the schools' periodic evaluation. "FSCC is going through the re-affirmation process," Renae Fry, HLC peer reviewer of Minnesota, told the Tribune. "This process comes at the end of an eight-year cycle (of accreditation)."...

It's the season for grass fires and rural fire departments dealt with multiple fires throughout the county Saturday. Bourbon County Fire District No. 3 Chief Delwin Mumbower said Monday rural volunteer firefighters responded to 15 grass and brush fires throughout the day. District No. 3 firefighters responded to 12 calls while Scott Township Fire Department responded to three calls and also helped District No. 3 with three fires, Mumbower said...

Both of Fort Scott High School's basketball teams will take part in the Louisburg Class 4A-Division I Sub-State Tournament this weekend with both teams taking on Spring Hill in the first round.
