The Bourbon County Commissioners on Monday heard another side to the issue of whether a contract agreement between two fire districts should be cancelled. On Nov. 18, Bourbon County Fire District No. 3 Chief Delwin Mumbower and Hiattville Fire Department Chief Louella Howard asked the commissioners to cancel the contract between District 3 and Scott Township Fire District No. 5. Mumbower said the agreement is no longer necessary because fire departments respond under mutual aid agreements...

Gordon Hugh Hurst, 95, formerly of Fort Scott, died Sunday morning, Nov. 30, 2014 at the Moundville Health & Rehabilitation Center near Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was born Aug. 29, 1919 in Ottawa, Kan., the son of George Elmer and Dorothy Inez Shore Hurst. He married Martha A. Gray on May 31, 1947 in Kansas City, Mo. Dwayne Neil, age 67, a resident of rural Fort Scott, Kan., died unexpectedly, Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
