Two Fort Scott residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident involving a semi-trailer late Friday afternoon at the intersection of 12th Street and U.S. Highway 69. Emergency personnel responded at 4:22 p.m. Friday to the accident which involved a collision between a 1997 Peterbilt semi driven by Larry Claypool, 49, of Nevada, Mo., and a 2008 Ford Expedition driven by Heather Readinger of Fort Scott...

Both Uniontown Junior High volleyball teams are 3-0 after play in the past 10 day. The UJH seventh-grade team beat Oswego on the road in three sets on Sept. 11, 24-26, 29-27, 17-15. COLONY -- Uniontown High School's football team avoided a "trap" in beating Crest, 58-22, here Friday night in Three Rivers League play, setting up a showdown with the No. 1-ranked team in Eight-Man Division II this weekend at Uniontown. The Eagles (2-0 TRL, 2-1 overall) have scored a total of 122 in their two wins while allowing only these 22 -- 16 of which came in the fourth quarter after the game was already out of reach...

PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team went 3-2 at the 10-team Pittsburg Invitational here Saturday. The record was not good enough to advance to championship bracket play, however, and the Tigers (10-8) finished in seventh place. IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team swept through the Allen Tournament here over the weekend to improve to 19-2. Fort Scott, which has won 13 consecutive matches, has won at least 19 matches in each of Lindsay Hill's four seasons as head coach. Prior to her hiring, the Greyhound program had won 19 of its previous 147 matches from mid-season 2006 to 2010. Hill's record at FSCC as of this summary is 86-42...

Virginia Lucille Schnichels, age 84, a resident of Uniontown, Kan., went to her heavenly home to join her family and friends on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at the Joplin Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo., surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 19, 1930, in Erie, Kan., the daughter of Charley Malson and Lucille George Malson. ...
