Lillian Maxine Butler, age 77, resident of Paola, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kan. Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott. Loren Dean Ward, age 84, a former resident of Uniontown, died Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott, Kan. He was born May 5, 1930, in Beaver, Okla., the son of Homer Ward and Susie Smith Ward. Loren had worked for the fire department in Englewood, Colo., for many years and had retired as fire chief. The Uniontown water system improvement project is coming to an end. City Clerk Sally Johnson said the city had received $45,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Grant to pay one-half of what is due Lathrop Construction of Nevada, Mo. for the final month of work on the project.
