Carolyn Spurling, 85, passed away at her home in Girard on April 24, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. Carolyn was born to Sam and Gwendolyn Knotts on June 23, 1928, and with the exception of short periods when the family lived in Twin Lakes, Colo., and New York City, where her father worked digging subway tunnels, she was a southeast Kansas girl and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1946. ...
