INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott Community College baseball split a pair of one-run games in a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader with Independence here Thursday. The Pirates won game one in the bottom of the seventh inning, 8-7. The Greyhounds allowed the tying run in the ninth inning of the second game but won 8-7 in 10 innings despite committing 6 errors...

INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott High School's varsity tennis team opened its season here Tuesday at the Independence Invitational, finishing with only one win on the day. Fort Scott High School baseball coach Josh Regan is hopeful the team's recent spring break trip to Florida proves to be a valuable learning experience for his players, with their first game right around the corner. While in Florida, 27 players from the team as well as three coaches and family members were able to attend two Washington Nationals spring training games at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla., with the games taking place March 19 and 20. ...
