For all the breakfast lovers out there, breakfast will be served all day on Thursday, Dec. 12, thanks to the Fort Scott Kiwanis Club. The 92nd Kiwanis Pancake Feed will be from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Temple, 110 S. Main. St. Tickets, which are available from any Kiwanian, are $5 for youth and adults. Kids under 5 are admitted at no charge...

The Beacon Christmas Adopt-a-Child program is currently accepting gifts for children of eligible families. A total of 129 families from Bourbon County registered in the program this year. Approximately 75 percent of the children from eligible families have been adopted to this point. ...

Davis, who is from the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, is settling in to his new job as director of information technology for the City of Fort Scott. Davis said throughout his life, he has traveled all over the U.S. and Canada, including the Midwest, and has "always liked it here."...

Georgia Irene Foster, 96, formerly of Fort Scott and Topeka, passed away early Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, 2013 at the Covenant Village in Westminster, Colo. Arrangements for Georgia Foster are incomplete and will be announced later by the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home...

Pauline Ellen Armstrong, age 93, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Monday Nov. 25, 2013. IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's basketball teams split a non-conference doubleheader at Allen here Tuesday night. Fort Scott's women opened the night with a 70-55 win over Allen, sweeping the season series. The Greyhounds (6-3) also defeated the Red Devils, 68-64, at Arnold Arena on November 12, which broke a 21-game losing streak against Division I schools...

Eleven members of Fort Scott High School's football team received 13 places on the first or second teams or the Honorable Mention list on the All-Southeast Kansas League Football Team. The All-SEK team was not released, per league policy, until all league teams' seasons were complete. Thus, the list could not be released until Coffeyville played in the Class 4A State Championship Game Saturday, which it lost to Buhler 31-14...

A severe winter storm passing through Oklahoma has forced Broken Arrow High School to withdraw from the Willard (Mo.) Four-State Classic. The decision by Broken Arrow not to play has turned the tournament into a three-team round-robin and the schedule has been adjusted accordingly. Even though Fort Scott High's teams will not have to play Thursday, the Tigers will still depart at 8 a.m. Thursday morning so they can get to Springfield before the storms hit that area...
