Roberta "Birdie" Ann Peterman passed away in Southport, N.C. on Aug. 7, 2013 at the age of 80. Birdie was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on July 17, 1933. She enjoyed anything to do with horses, listening to jazz and country western music, dancing, gardening, cats, and was a lifelong reader. The Bourbon County Sheriff's Office is looking for the driver who led them on a high-speed chase that began in Fort Scott and ended in a ditch in rural Vernon County, Mo. At about 10:15 p.m., a Bourbon County Sheriff's deputy saw a 2004 Honda Civic being driven by an individual the deputy believed had a suspended or revoked license. ...

An estimated 30 people came to the budget meeting of the Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees Monday. Some were FSCC college students, but others were constituents wanting the board to not raise taxes who did not get what they hoped for.
