Students learn about safety from trained professionals

Fort Scott Middle School students got a chance to get out of the school building for some fun and hopefully, according to organizers, learn some valuable safety lessons from public safety personnel Friday afternoon at the school. Whether it was a car from the Fort Scott Police Department, a truck from the Fort Scott Fire Department, or even a Mercy Medflight helicopter, groups of FSMS students came outside in intervals to visit various stations and learn from law enforcement, fire and other emergency response personnel representing various agencies about such things as the equipment they use and what their job entails.. ...

Community, contractors help others make storm repairs

It appears as though several contractors are stepping up to help those in need after an early April hailstorm pelted Fort Scott, causing high-dollar damage throughout the city. During Friday's regular county commission meeting, Bourbon County Emergency Manager Terri Coop updated commissioners on progress with the newly-formed recovery committee and also informed them what private contractors are doing to reach out and help...

Donna Jean Ingold passed away May 17, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Feb. 18, 1936 near Pawnee Station, Crawford County, Kan. She was the daughter of Roscoe and Viola (Park) Ingold who predeceased her. She attended Johnson, Girard, Maple Grove, and Hepler grade schools. ...

GARNETT -- Fort Scott High School's baseball team defeated Ottawa in the semifinals of the Anderson County Class 4A Regional Tournament here Thursday. But undefeated Iola put a rough ending to the season by rolling in the championship game, 17-6. The Mustangs (18-0) will be the top seed and the only unbeaten team in the Class 4A State Tournament at Salina next weekend. ...
