Hill D. DeMent Jr., 84 of Fort Scott passed away May 11 in Fort Scott with a full heart, a head full of great memories, and a soul filled with many passions. Hill grew up in a small town in Bunceton, Mo., enjoying fishing and all things outdoors. He graduated high school in 1946, and soon after joined the Air Force in pursuit of the GI Bill, as Hill had always placed a heavy emphasis on education. ...

The Bronson City Council has been working to rehabilitate houses in the community, rather than condemn and tear them down. An independent committee was formed in the town and work began on a housing rehabilitation survey from the Kansas Department of Commerce to investigate funds for rehabilitating houses in need of major repair in the city. Monday's regular monthly USD 235 Board of Education meeting saw the retirement or resignation of several teachers in the district, hirings to fill those positions and the approval of a negotiations offer to be sent to teachers in the district. Among those teachers retiring were Lois Wright, a Business and Career Pathways teacher at Uniontown High School and Deanne Bloesser, UHS math teacher. PARSONS -- Fort Scott High junior Jonathan Allen finished in seventh place after a three-way playoff at the KATY Course here Monday and qualified for the Class 4A State Tournament, which will be held at Cherry Oaks Golf Course in Cheney.
