Well, it is time to bring this latest adventure to a close and get on with my life. I had an appointment at the University Hospital to get an X-ray of my ribs to see how they were healing. The X-rays showed that they were healing quite nicely. The doctor said I could drop my morphine to one pill a day and if I didn't have any pain, I could discontinue them. She also said I couldn't drive 'til I was off of the morphine...

Well, it finally happened. The late-night unsolicited phone calls, the lawn signs, the brochures that clogged our mail boxes, and the interminable television and radio commercials have finally come to an end. Now whether you will be mourning or celebrating your voting choices this week one thing is clear -- we will all be in a "robo-call free zone" at least for the next year or so. James Duane Walrod III, age 69, former resident of Fulton, Kan., and more recently of San Diego, Calif., died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at the Sharps Memorial Hospital in San Diego. He was born Jan. 10, 1943, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of James and Rose Walrod Jr. James attended Fulton High School and Fort Scott Community College. Leila Mae Lutes, 98, of El Cajon, Calif., passed away on Oct. 19, 2012, in El Cajon. Leila was born in Fort Scott, Kan., on May 4, 1914, the daughter of John and Sylvia (Fifer) Reynolds. She was a 1932 graduate of Fort Scott High School. After Leila's marriage to Arnold F. Lutes, also formerly of Fort Scott, the couple moved to El Cajon, Calif., where they spent their entire married lives...

Christy May Large, 37, Fort Scott, was arrested by the Fort Scott Police Department at 10:50 p.m. Thursday for domestic battery. She is still being held at this time with no bond. Kristi Jo Arbuckle, 32, Colony, Kan., was arrested at 6 p.m. Friday by the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office to serve 48 hours incarceration and was released at 6 p.m. Sunday for time served...

City officials have announced that Jon Garrison, currently the director of finance and administration for the city of Pittsburg, will be returning to his hometown next month to serve as the new director of finance for Fort Scott. Garrison, 52, is set to assume his new job responsibilities on Dec. 3.
