Shelter gets help from area 4-Hers

A group of area youth picked up hoses and took some leashes to give the operators of the Lee's Paws and Claws Animal Shelter some much-needed help Saturday. Members of the Barnstormers 4-H club in Bourbon County, who are between 7 and 10 years of age, spent about a half-day working at the no-kill shelter, which is located at 721 240th St. The youngsters' duties included cleaning the animal pens, walking the dogs for exercise, teaching obedience, and playing with the animals...

PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball season came to an end Saturday with a loss to second-seeded Girard at the Pittsburg Class 4A Sub-State Tournament. Girard took the match, 25-22, 25-18. Fort Scott's season ended with a 10-24 record. "We didn't finish the way we wanted to," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. "We just couldn't get a run going. It seemed like we would get one and our and just couldn't make a run on them."...

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team wasn't going to be a Sub-State runner-up yet again, as they had been the last two seasons. And they weren't going to come up short on their home court. So the Eagles went out and beat Oswego in three sets, 19-25, 25-15, 25-17, in the final of the Uniontown Class 2A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament at the West Bourbon Elementary gymnasium Saturday afternoon and will be playing at State for the first time since 2009...

Rienbolt going to second State Meet

GARNETT -- Fort Scott High School junior Katren Rienbolt earned her second straight State Meet berth in winning the girls' race at the Anderson County Class 4A Regional Cross-Country Meet here Saturday. Rienbolt, who didn't take up the sport until last year, finished nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up on the four-kilometer course, turning in a time of 15 minutes, 32.43 seconds. ...
