John L. Rickman, 72, of Girard, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at his residence in Girard. He was born Feb, 6, 1940, at Roscoe, Mo., the son of Clifford A. and Ellen E. (Carter) Rickman. The family moved to Richards, Mo., in 1946 and John attended schools there and graduated from Nevada High School in Nevada, Mo. He lived in Nevada until 1965 when he moved to Girard. He studied vocational-auto technology at Pittsburg State University from 1958 until 1960...

To the Editor: Our Airport Day 2012 was a huge success. We had an excellent crowd, great entertainment, numerous aerobatic performances and plenty to eat. The day started off with biscuits and gravy, provided by the Kiwanis Club. A Mapleton man was killed in a two-vehicle accident that took place early Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 54 about three miles east of Fort Scott. Justin Hueston, 22, died when the 1977 Honda motorcycle he was driving east on U.S. 54 was struck by a 1996 Buick Park Avenue driven by Joshua Bassett, 24, of Fort Scott. ...
