On Jan. 22, members of the Kalm family celebrated Hurl and Nellie Kalm's 76th anniversary. Nellie's 93rd birthday celebration was also on the same day. The event was held in the Community Christian Church where the family gathered to celebrate. A "Financial A-fair" has been announced by Gary Peterson for an Arcadia Festival Oct. 8. Volunteers and contributions are needed to help open the new no-kill animal shelter south of Fort Scott. Now called Lee's Paws and Claws Animal Shelter, it has been in the works since 1998.
