Volunteers needed for Join Hands Day project

Controlled burn conducted at historic site

Using a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel, U.S. Fish and Wildlife and National Park Service wildland personnel torched off a controlled burn Thursday evening at Fort Scott National Historic Site. The objective of the blaze was to eliminate a buildup of hazardous fuels, control invasion of woody and exotic species and promote the growth of native prairie plants on five acres of restored tallgrass prairie. 100 YEARS AGO (1911) Mrs. Sam Berner went up to the Berner cabin recently and found that a squirrel had built a nest in the cabin and that four young squirrels, not quite large enough to jump around for themselves, were in the nest. I am not a golfer, but I am a taxpayer and it is the tax money that bought most of it so why did we not get to vote on it?
