Two tax seminars scheduled at Pittsburg State

Two tax seminars will be held in Pittsburg on Thursday, March 24 at Pittsburg State University, 1501 S Joplin, Shirk Hall, BTI Conference Room, Pittsburg. A "Contractors' Tax Workshop" will begin with sign-in at 1:45 p.m. The program begins at 2 p.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. The workshop is devoted to sales tax issues for contractors, subcontractors and repairmen. It will address sales tax on materials and labor, Project Exemption Certificates, sales tax returns, billing and related issues...

Mayor proclaims March as Red Cross Month

Mayor Richard Hedges recently signed a proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month in Fort Scott, a tradition dating back to 1943, when President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the first such declaration. Throughout the month of March, more than 700 Red Cross chapters and blood regions nationwide will celebrate with special events, training and fundraisers that give the public a chance to learn more about the agency and ways they can get involved, a news release said...
