While attendance at this year's Fort Scott Community Gala was down slightly from last year, proceeds from the event are up, according to organizers. Carla Bryant Farmer, the cochair for the gala, said more than 300 people attended this year's fundraiser at the River Room, and while organizers are still paying expenses, early figures show the second annual event brought in about $27,300...

Four local gardens will be on display soon, but where they are is a secret. The Bourbon County Master Gardeners and Garden Club is sponsoring its second "A Very Secret Garden Tour" from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, September 11. Five Uniontown 4-H members recently obtained some valuable experience during the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes Weekend hosted by Kansas State University's Department of Animal Sciences and Industry. The event, which took place Aug. 21-22 in Manhattan, tests participants' knowledge and skills in livestock judging and meats judging, and their overall knowledge of the industry through various individual and team events, the Livestock Skillathon and the Livestock Quiz Bowl. ...
