Hi Marilyn: I was born in Fort Scott, moved to the states of Oklahoma and California and was there the first six grades during the latter part of the depression. I moved back to Fort Scott in 1946 and started to school in junior high which was located on National Avenue. ...

Youth who have completed second through fifth grade are invited to register for free cooking classes sponsored by K-State Research and Extension. Each class will consist of three morning (9 a.m. -- 11:30 p.m.) or afternoon (1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.) sessions. Locations will be in Fort Scott June 1-3, morning and afternoon; Bronson June 16-18, morning; and Uniontown June 16-18, afternoon. Classes will be taught by Sandy Winters and Terri Kretzmeier, K-State Research and Extension nutrition assistants...

The Monday night dance was very good with a few more attending this week. Mary Sue had a little help with the table and chairs. She makes the coffee the first thing and it is ready soon after she is finished with the chairs. John and Bonnie Gaddy from Pittsburg were here early to help with them. Alva and Neva Hite were back Monday night. She has her arm in a cast and Alva is having heart trouble. He danced two or three dances though...

The Marmaton Valley Chapter of the Old Time Fiddler's and Picker's met May 9. There wasn't a large crowd in attendance, due to the meeting being held on Mother's Day. In attendance were 10 musicians and 19 guests, and everyone had a great time. The group was glad to have Jennie and Clifford Dawson back. They haven't been well lately. They were also glad to have Richard and Agnes Pearman, from the Iola Chapter, in attendance...

Fort Scott Elks Lodge 579 and the Fort Scott VFW Men's Auxiliary 1165 partnered for their annual Children's Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 8. In years past, these two organizations have done this event separately, and although successful, neither organization has had as large of an attendance as this year...
