It is not surprising that "Union" Major General Samuel Ryan Curtis who commanded the Department of Kansas is 1864 would state that, "The idea of "PRICE" being anywhere IN MISSOURI IS MONSTROUS! To those Missourians of the "northern persuasion" and there were a great many during the Civil War this was true! However, to those of the "southern persuasion" in the Show-Me-State this was HERESY, because the second coming of Major General Sterling Price and his "Army of Missouri", hopefully, would liberate them from northern oppression & aggression! Alas, in retrospect Price's 1864 Campaign in Missouri and Kansas did not liberate Missouri from its' northern occupation and oppression. ...

Dave and I were talking on the phone early yesterday morning. I was relaxing, having a cup of coffee, when I heard a whirling noise above my house. A helicopter apparently was landing on my roof. Even for me, this was not normal. The engine noise continued, but by then it was somewhere over my pond...and then in my front yard... ...

Two of the three players named as 'Hounds of the Week for their performances against Air Force Prep last Friday at Colorado Springs were also given Player of the Week Honors by the Jayhawk Conference. Running back Justin Woods, a sophomore from Shawnee, was given the Offensive 'Hound of the Week Award for the career-best 227 yards and 2 touchdowns he recorded against the Huskies in Fort Scott 48-28 victory. ...

On Sept. 15, Fort Scott Human Resources Director Bob Johnson's job was put in jeopardy when the Fort Scott City Commission voted 3-2 to instruct Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner to eliminate the Human Resources Director position. For the time being, however, Johnson is still employed by they city while Turner continues to evaluate the situation and make a decision which Turner said could come as early as two weeks or as late as 30 days...

The project, which will include a two-inch milling of the asphalt on Wall Street from Scott Avenue to Steen Street and subsequent overlay of fresh asphalt, was originally scheduled to begin at the beginning of July but was delayed because of funding issues and weather delays...

A new leadership structure within Mercy Health System of Kansas will establish a president at each of its two hospitals; Mercy Health Center of Fort Scott and Mercy Hospital of Independence, company officials announced Wednesday.
