Fores, Joseph Brice, 501 S. Lynn, Pleasanton, Kan., was arrested by Fort Scott POlice Department on Sept. 21, 2009 at 8:19 p.m. for possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of weapon, driving while suspended and no liability insurance and is still being held at this time...

Grace Louise Buford, 81, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 29, 2009 at the Girard Medical Center in Girard, Kansas. She was born Aug. 31, 1928, in Redfield, Kan., the daughter of Arthur Harrison and Nola Elizabeth (Inman) Pitts. She married Ralph Edward Buford on Oct. 7, 1947 in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1992...

Anna Lee Moore, age 83, of LaCygne, Kan., died Sept. 25, 2009, in Tomball, Texas. She was born July 23, 1926 in Harrisonville, Mo., daughter of Charley D. and Ann L. Duncan Moore. She graduated from Archie High School. She also attended Kansas City Business College...

Recent enrollment counts at area schools show mixed results. Fort Scott Community College has an enrollment of 2,017 students this fall, an increase of 278 students from last fall and the first time that enrollment at the college has broken the 2,000 student mark, according to FSCC officials...

Bruce Fisher with Blue Valley Public Safety Inc. was at the Bourbon County Fairgrounds Wednesday to host a demonstration of a new storm siren. The siren demonstrated is produced by Federal Warning Systems and features live voice capabilities, Fisher said. COLUMBUS -- According to information sent out by the Chanute Tribune, Fort Scott's Kacie Brown has finished in fourth place in the Southeast Kansas League in the first-ever sanctioned girls' golf season. Jarod Hill scored two goals and assisted on another as visiting Neosho (Mo.) took a 3-1 victory over Fort Scott High in a non-league soccer match at Ellis Park. After a half-hour delay caused when two of the officials went to the wrong city, Fort Scott junior Josh Buller came out and scored quickly despite a nagging groin injury.
