He was released on the same day at 2:43 p.m. on a $500 cash bond. Pillion, Carla Denience, 39, 727 S. Judson, Fort Scott, was arrested by Fort Scott Police Department on Sept. 5, 2009 at 2:50 p.m. for driving while suspended and no insurance. PLEASANTON -- Pleasanton's volleyball team took care of Bronaugh (Mo.) in four games here Tuesday night, 25-15, 25-13, 17-25, 25-16. Since this was a dual, a best-of-5 match was played instead of the usual best-of-3. Megan Lowe led Pleasanton with 9 kills followed by6 Kim Robinson with 8. INDEPENDENCE -- Heather Hobbs took third place in No. 2 singles here Tuesday as Fort Scott High's tennis team took part in a five-team round-robin tournament here. Hobbs (5-9) defeated Elyse Merritt of Labette County, 8-4, in her first match. In the second match, she lost 8-2 to Emily Derrick, an Independence player who was filling a vacant slot in the Parsons line up. The third match was an 8-0 loss to Taylor Mason of Independence. OSAWATOMIE -- Fort Scott High School's volleyball team took two of three matches here Tuesday night. The Tigers defeated Prairie View, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, and Osawatomie, 25-22, 13-25, 25-18, before falling to Louisburg, 25-11, 25-11. "We played well against Prairie View and Osawatomie but in both matches, let down in the second game," Fort Scott head coach Carol Bingesser said. PITTSBURG -- A Pittsburg bakery is joining in the battle against cancer. Celebrations by Lori, 602 N. Broadway, is teaming up with CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization, for the Sixth Annual Cupcakes for a Cause campaign. During the fundraiser, which takes place Sept. 21-27, all proceeds from cupcake sales at the bakery will be donated to the CancerCare organization to help area families who are dealing with the disease...

The trial by jury for a local man accused of rape began Tuesday in the Bourbon County District Court three years after being arrested. According to Bourbon County Court records, Fort Scott resident Derek Holt, 28, was arrested in January 2007 on a Bourbon County warrant for rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child -- charges which Holt later plead not guilty...
