FSPD takes part in Special Olympics torch run

The Fort Scott Police Department was running for the 2009 Special Olympics Kansas Thursday morning. Five Fort Scott Police Officers participated in the 2009 Torch Run in support of the SOKS. Runners took off from the Bourbon-Crawford County line, each running one at a time until they reached the parking lot of Walgreens at the corner of 23rd and Main streets. Upon arrival at Walgreens, all five runners ran to the Hawkins Public Safety Facility where they completed their journey...

Milken Center unveils African-American history exhibit

The Lowell Milken Center recently unveiled its newest exhibit -- the African-American History of Bourbon County. Staff at the educational center, 4 S. Main St., announced the grand opening of the exhibit during the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee on Thursday at the center. Simon Cowell may not have been there, but hundreds of people did turn out to watch several area singers compete in the 4th Annual Fort Scott Idol singing contest Thursday evening at Memorial Hall.
