Fort Scott post office makes changes to mail sorting system

Changes are coming to the Fort Scott post office. Changes in mail trends are causing the United States Postal Service to make some changes. Monday night marked the first night that the Fort Scott Post Office sent the majority of outgoing mail to Kansas City, Mo., for sorting rather than doing the sorting in Fort Scott. Vernon County sheriff: Mound City teenager likely killed from downed electrical line

Angus' 135 year heritage celebrated at field day

The Kansas Angus Association will host its 2008 field day on Sept. 27 in Victoria, in conjunction with a day of celebration of the heritage of Angus cattle and the 125th Anniversary of the American Angus Association. Local skateboarders gathered at the Skubitz Plaza West parking lot Sunday afternoon to enjoy six hours of skating during the first Skate Day hosted by the Fort Scott Skate Park Committee. Nate Lyons, co-convener of the event came to the City Commission meeting on September 16 asking for permission to use the parking lot. Lyons was asked by commissioners, how many participants he was expecting, to which he responded, "if we get 16, we'll be happy."...
