Hi neighbors. This Independence Day many people took their families out for a picnic, swimming, a ball game or to go visit relatives. Most ended the day watching fireworks. Although large public fireworks displays are popular now, I remember when the use of fireworks was more 'family orientated.' The Fourth of July was always celebrated with the famous "Black Cats" firecrackers. ...

Dorothy Irene Fisher, age 81, a resident of Moran, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home in Moran. She grew up in Bronson, Kan., and graduated from Bronson High School with the class of 1944. On March 13, 1947, she married Russell Elvis Fisher and they lived in Moran, Kan., until 2007 when they both had to move to the Moran Nursing home because of their health. ...

Fort Scott, Kan. -- A 10-year, $6 million plan to repair many damaged and deteriorating streets and sidewalks within the city should get started by early next year, Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner said.
