Jayhawk girls advance easily over Northeast

TOPEKA -- The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) will be accepting applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) from Tuesday, January 22 through Monday, March 31. LIEAP provides an annual benefit to help qualifying households pay winter heating bills. Individuals with disabilities, elderly persons, and families with children are the primary groups assisted. An average benefit of $293.43 was provided to 41,269 households in 2007...

Some of the funds donated to the United Way Campaign are disbursed to a local organization to assist those who are passing through town and find themselves in need. According to literature provided by the Fort Scott Area Ministerial Alliance, the local Hospitality Fund, which is also funded by local churches, was created to assist transients, people passing through town who have run out of funds to get them to their intended destinations...
