A Mound City man died Tuesday evening after being struck by a car on U.S. Highway 69 near La Cygne, a Kansas Highway Patrol report said Wednesday. Daniel Gerard Payne, age 51, resident of Fort Scott, died Nov. 28, 2007 as the result of a house fire. He was born Jan. 7, 1956 in Fort Scott, the son of Elmer Mike Payne and Hilda Roberts Payne.
