Thankful

It's been about 10 years since I picked up a camera for the first time with the purpose of capturing and sharing one of life's little moments. At that time I was working for the school newspaper at Uniontown High School. Luckily for me I had a few individuals at the school who wanted nothing but the best for my future and they helped me and dragged me along for a few years until everything finally clicked. I've not thanked them enough over the years.

Only in the past few days have I realized the lack of thanks I've given them. At Captured Images, Gary and I have been putting together a collection of some of our favorite photos to display in one of our storefront windows. He and I were putting together a few words about ourselves and our love for photography. This is what I came up with:

"Growing up in a small town provided ample opportunity to dream of faraway places and the things that made those places magical. Of course, as a youngster, those places included castles, dragons, knights and even a sword or two. The woods behind my home didn't include any of those magical things but there was plenty to explore and discover.

Little did I know that there were places across the country just like these magical places in my mind (Minus the dragons and armored knights, of course).

I've always enjoyed the outdoors and what it provides. Camping and fishing and visiting the mountains are a few of my favorite pastimes. Only in the past few years have I discovered photography. Nowadays, there is nothing I would rather do than grab a camera and sit under a tree waiting for the sun to set or for a bald eagle to swoop down for an evening meal.

Photography provides an opportunity for escape from the real world and a chance to fall back into my dreams and discover the beauty that can be found just around the bend, down the river and even in my own backyard."

To some people photography might be a hobby. To others it might be a job. I consider it neither. It's literally the essence of who I am. For that I am truly blessed.
