Are You Smarter than a Bird?
For those of you who are reading this because you are bored at work (Admit it.) I've attached a link that will pretty much make your day. http://tinyurl.com/52ydx
For those who are reading this because of all the learning material (of which there is precious little) then here is the lesson of the day! It's photography AND July 4 related! Get your socks pulled on tight because what I'm about to tell you will blow them off!
It's possible, actually, that nothing will be blown off. Especially your socks. However, we are dealing with fireworks and I hear that they can be especially dangerous when holding them in your hand. So don't attempt the trick you see in the above photo. Hands have been burned clear off because of it.
As you can probably deduce, this photo was taken last year on Independence Day, better known as July 4. If that fact doesn't jump out at you ... shut off your computer and go home. Enough chit chat. This photo wasn't created with magic or Adobe Photoshop as some people believe. Nor was it that difficult. It was tough but easier to do than train a bird how to make laser sounds.
First - Set up camera on tripod.
Second - Aim camera at subjects with sparklers (Don't light them yet!!!).
Third - Have subjects practice their designated letter (Remember, everything has to be written backwards with the lit sparklers).
Fourth - Set camera exposure to something in the range of 3 seconds for the shutter speed and the aperature to f9 or f11 at 400 ISO. This may need tinkered with depending on where you are and the time of evening.
Fifth - Count the subjects down and on your mark they start writing their letters (The process of writing must take a little less than 3 seconds).
NOW, IF YOU FOLLOWED THESE STEPS YOU SHOULD HAVE AN IMAGE OF A WORD. The important step, and I'm going to keep it to myself, is the most important step. A magician never reveals the secret!!! For you photography buffs out there...tinker around with it and you can probably figure it out. Email me what you come up with on my member page at:

Also, July 4 is the most dangerous day to drive (I heard it on 92.5 this morning) so don't drink and drive and watch out for deer. And elephants. I sometimes yell at deer when I see them on the side of the road...just to see what happens.
