I've been thinking...
I've been thinking recently about where I want to send my kids to school once they are old enough. Of course I guess I first must have children! My wife would tell you that it's going to be soon ... my response is somewhat different. It's not that I don't want kids ... just not this year. Maybe next.
Anyway, I'm having a tough time deciding which school system is better.
I grew up in the Uniontown district, which has some amazing instructors. One of them is in the teacher's hall of fame. Several others played huge roles in my life. The problem, though, is that most of them will be retired by the time my kids reach school age.
Fort Scott has wonderful schools and great athletic departments. There is a fantabulous principal in Billie Joe Drake at Eugene Ware. From what I hear, Eugene Ware is the pinnacle of schools in this area. And that makes things tougher for me.
Uniontown is a small town. Fort Scott is a big town. I want my kids to have the opportunity to be able to walk down the street without much worry they'll be abducted or hit by a car. That's small town life. But ... I want opportunity to excel in art, music and sports. Fort Scott provides a better chance for that.
I have allegiances in Uniontown because of family and friends that I've known my entire life. I've got them in Fort Scott now since I've worked around a lot of high schoolers and their parents the past few years. I used to have a one-sided view on where my kids would end up and that was Uniontown. Now I'm not so sure.
Uniontown offers a great administration. Top notch. But there are issues within the system that cause a few burps here and there. I know the administration is great at Fort Scott but know nothing about the teachers for the most part. That's where I need help.
In short, I'm torn. I need your help. It's not urgent obviously. But I would still like a little feedback from everyone on why each system is better, or worse.
