Having stories to tell your children's future spouse? Priceless.
Lately my life has gotten pretty crazy. My two-year-old son is very active. He's one of those kids who can go and go and go, until he crashes. He's full of energy and loves to cause mischief.
My daughter, who is almost 9 months old, is getting very active too and refuses to be put down. Ever. So the two of them together make for a pretty interesting morning around my house.
Morning madness has taught me a few lessons about having children that I never knew before, things that I believe should have been mentioned somewhere before. All those helpful mommy books, they left out a chapter: Things your child will do just to test your patience.
Here are a few things I've learned.
1. It is possible, and sometimes mandatory, to do all things with a baby attached to your hip. Because a happy baby makes for a much, much happier morning for EVERYONE.
2. A two-year-old left unattended momentarily (so you can calm down the above mentioned baby) will find a brand new container of baby powder absolutely fascinating. The *poof* of magic white powder that he can squeeze out will give him more joy and entertainment than any christmas gift he has ever received.
3. When you discover why the two-year-old is being so nice and quiet, he will have the most innocent, sweet face and will not understand why mommy does not like his "pretty snow" that he's covered the carpet with. He will also not understand why mommy doesn't care that he now smells "very nice."
4. A whole container of baby powder is actually quite difficult to get out of carpet. While you might think that it would be very simple to sweep it up with a vaccum, you would be wrong. 30 minutes later, when you're coughing up your lungs from inhaling the baby powder, you will be contemplating why you ever bought the stuff in the first place.
5. Toothbrushes and a bathroom sink also make lots of fun for a two-year-old. In fact, he probably will find nothing wrong with jamming the toothbrush down the bathroom sink drain and then telling you "it fell."
6. Also, no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to reach that toothbrush. Not even with tweezers. The only upside to the situation: it was his daddy's toothbrush, not his mommy's. Mommy still gets to brush her teeth before work. *yes!*
7. No one ever tells you that your son will learn the phrase "Mommy has a big butt" and that he will repeat it, at the top of his lung's, not taking your embarrassment into consideration. Although, it does make random people in Wal-Mart have a nice laugh.
8. No one ever warned me that at 9 months old, my daughter would already be finding ways to torment her brother. Sweet, sweet revenge makes more work for mommy. Apparently, there are lots of things brothers can share with their sisters; however, sippie cups are not one of them!
9. Who knew that a maxi-pad would be so interesting to a two-year-old? No son, those are not "stickers" and you can NOT go to daycare wearing them.
10. Even though a morning can be absolutely crazy, hearing your son say "I love you mommy" can make everything better.
These are just a few of the funny things my children have done lately. Each morning is a new experience and even though I do get stressed sometimes, they bring so much joy to my life. Well, except for when my son tells people in Wal-Mart that his Mommy has a big butt, I could probably do with out that. But, I wouldn't trade them for the world!
